Procedures for performing Phlebotomy and its Concern’s:


The procedures for Phlebotomy are preformed inside a hospital or a cardiologist’s office. Under the supervision of a cardiologist or a doctor, the nursing staff or a phlebotomist performs phlebotomy. To get started off with phlebotomy, an intravenous needle is inserted in to the vein of the patient’s arm to deliver the saline fluid. After this a second needle is inserted in the patients arm to remove blood.


The amount of blood which has to be removed varies and depends upon you cardiologist. This procedure of phlebotomy on the average takes around thirty to thirty five minutes. During this time a nurse or a phlebotomist will check your heart rate and blood pressure on regular intervals. After the completion of phlebotomy the needles are removed and the patient is observed until he/she feel well enough to leave.

Concerns regarding Phlebotomy:

What’s considered best is to have a careful discussion with a physician before you start off with procedures of Phlebotomy. Having a discussion is suggested so that a physician can easily rule out other causes of symptom. These procedures of Phlebotomy are not recommended if you are a person suffering from deficiency of iron or your blood count being too high meaning you were dehydrated. Both of these concerns shall be corrected before considering Phlebotomy. These procedures of Phlebotomy are not preformed in order to prevent a cerebrovascular stroke on such kind of people.
