The
procedures for Phlebotomy are preformed inside a hospital or a cardiologist’s
office. Under the supervision of a cardiologist or a doctor, the nursing staff
or a phlebotomist performs phlebotomy. To get started off with phlebotomy, an
intravenous needle is inserted in to the vein of the patient’s arm to deliver
the saline fluid. After this a second needle is inserted in the patients arm to
remove blood.
The
amount of blood which has to be removed varies and depends upon you
cardiologist. This procedure of phlebotomy on the average takes around thirty
to thirty five minutes. During this time a nurse or a phlebotomist will check
your heart rate and blood pressure on regular intervals. After the completion
of phlebotomy the needles are removed and the patient is observed until he/she
feel well enough to leave.
Concerns regarding Phlebotomy:
What’s
considered best is to have a careful discussion with a physician before you
start off with procedures of Phlebotomy. Having a discussion is suggested so
that a physician can easily rule out other causes of symptom. These procedures
of Phlebotomy are not recommended if you are a person suffering from deficiency
of iron or your blood count being too high meaning you were dehydrated. Both of
these concerns shall be corrected before considering Phlebotomy. These
procedures of Phlebotomy are not preformed in order to prevent a
cerebrovascular stroke on such kind of people.
